Sunday, November 13, Trentham Hall ~ 12:00 PM
On Sunday, November 21, we will all gather in the sanctuary at 11:00. There will be no 8:42 service and the Deaf will meet in the Sanctuary rather than the chapel. At the 11:00 service, we will vote on our 2011 proposed budget. Following worship, we’ll travel to Trentham Hall for our annual Love Feast. Baskets will be on the tables for you to place your payment for the meal.
Please join the family of FBC for our annual Love Feast after the combined morning worship service. The church will prepare our traditional meal of turkey, dressing, vegetables, salads, bread, and beverages. Members are asked to bring a dessert to serve 12 people. A love offering will be taken to cover the cost. This year we will be featuring a video of the many ministries of First Baptist. We hope to see everyone there.

Leaving Iowa, by Tim Clue and Spike Manton, is a hilarious, sentimental comedy about family, family relationships, and family vacations. It is the story of a writer who returns home and decides to finally take his father’s ashes to his childhood home, as requested. But when Don discovers Grandma’s house is now a grocery store, he begins traveling across Iowa searching for a proper resting place for his father. This father-and-son road trip shifts smoothly from the present to Don’s memories of the annual, torturous vacations of his childhood. This play is a postcard to anyone who recognizes that we are given an earthly family to teach us that a perfect father/son relationship may never occur this side of Heaven, but these “ties that bind” do give us a glimpse of our Heavenly Father’s love. As Mom says, “Follow your father, sweetheart.” (Recommended for ages 12+)
Support for The WordPlayers’ 2011-2012 season has been provided by Delta-21 Resources Inc. (Gold Sponsor), Cornerstone Foundation and, for this production, by A&W Office Supply. For more information about The WordPlayers, please visit www.wordplayers.org.
Dr. Shiell Publishes Delivering from Memory: the Effect of Performance on the Early Christian Audience
Using analyses of ancient rhetoric, this book shows how an oral reading of the New Testament shapes the character of the audience. Dr. Shiell studies such familiar passages as Jesus’ healing of the man with the withered hand in Mark 5, the disciples on the road to Emmaus in Luke 28, Jesus’ reading in the synagogue in Luke 4, and more. In each one he demonstrates how an oral reading causes the reader and the listener to gaze into the mirror of Christ’s life and reflect how we imitate him as his children. This book will be used as the study book for the 2012 Winter Bible Study.
Book release party November 9, 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the Blue Room
