Stitching Connections Across the Ocean
Members of the church’s Knots of Love knitting group are extending their outreach around the globe by contributing hand-knitted cotton dishcloths to the Wheels for Kenya program sponsored by the Joni and Friends organization. Joni and Friends provides wheelchairs and other mobility devices to adults and children who are affected by disability.
Over the last two months a small group of knitters completed 47 colorful dishcloths. In addition, Norma Coggins provided 15 crocheted cloths made in years past by her mother-in-law to swell the Knots of Love contribution to 62 items. Individuals and their families who are receiving wheelchairs when Joni and Friends volunteers travel to Kenya in May will find these cloths in their goody bags alongside other small treasures such as sewing kits, aprons, coloring pages and crayons, undergarments, and t-shirts appropriate for men, women, or children.
Pictured with the completed dishcloths are from left, Ethel Powell, Becky Frye, Mary Johnson, Jane Hall, Pat Jones, and Beth Nagel. Also participating in the project were Mary Anne Hoskins, Jennifer Mabe, Betty Vawter, and Carolyn White.
The Knots of Love group welcomes beginning or experienced knitters. Contact Carolyn White or Betty Vawter for more information.
