First Baptist Church is seeking a pastor who will celebrate our history, embrace our present, and lead us into the future as the hands and feet of Jesus in downtown Knoxville and its surrounding neighborhoods.
Our Pastor Search Committee has engaged in a deliberative and prayerful process to determine both the characteristics of the person best-suited to lead our church and the qualities of our church that are most important to highlight to potential candidates. This process included a series of congregational information sessions, led by our Interim Pastor, Dr. David Crocker; the gathering of information from other sources; and a relentless focus on scripture. The results of our discernment process are the Pastor Profile and Church Profile, which you can access via the links below. We hope you will find them to be useful resources.
We are seeking candidates with a seminary degree from an accredited institution and experience in the ministry. Preferred qualifications include a terminal degree and pastoral experience, particularly in a similarly-sized or urban church. Ultimately, however, our committee and our church are committed to being guided by the Holy Spirit in the pastor search process. We encourage any potential candidates to apply who, after seeking the Lord’s guidance, feel called to explore ministry here. And if you are not called to join us on our journey, please pray for our church and the person whom God already knows will be joining us.
To submit a resume or express your interest, please email us at or call the chair of our committee, Matt Lyon, at 865-585-5984.
